The painting you did looked pretty neat. =) Ends up that the corset is going to be black stretch velvet, I foresee lots of flatlining in my future..
I tried that. Its really really hard to sew without messing up. what I ended up doing was sponge painting metallic paints over the black leather. It looks really good in person. The camera kinda killed it.
